Barcelona's metro celebrated its centenary this December, with various events throughout 2025 to mark the anniversary.

An event on December 30 will kick off the celebrations which will last until the same date the following year. The first Barcelona metro ran on December 30, 1924.

Among the events that will be organized to mark the milestone anniversary are guided visits to areas not normally open to the public, including ghost stations, including Gaudí and Correus, as well as control centers.

President of operating company TMB, Laia Bonet, and its CEO, Xavier Flores, explained that the centenary events aim to showcase both the past and future of the metro.

There will also be an exhibition on restored historic trains that are no longer in service. Visitors won’t be able to ride the vintage trains, but the exhibition will showcase historic models such as the Series 100, 300, 400, 1100, and 3000.

Another exhibition at Palau Robert will showcase the history of the metro along with immersive virtual reality experiences.

Books will also be published to commemorate the milestone, including a children’s illustrated history, a photographic collection, and a study on women workers in the metro since 1924.

TMB will also organize a timed climb of the 74 meters of the deepest station, Coll/La Teixonera. Additionally, there will be a 5km nighttime run through the tunnels.

A major centenary event will take place at the Escola Industrial with the premiere of the documentary "One Hundred Years of Metro (1924-2024)".

Additionally, a special centenary lottery ticket will be launched in collaboration with the ONCE foundation.
