Blanes gears up for 50th edition of Fireworks Contest
Event in Costa Brava town expected to attract over a million people from July 22 to 26
Blanes, a seaside town on Catalonia's northern coast, is getting ready to celebrate the 50th edition of its world-famous Fireworks Contest.
Postponed twice due to Covid, the Costa Brava town's local council expects to attract over a million people from July 22 to 26.
"We think a lot of people will come especially as it starts on a Friday," Blanes mayor Àngel Canosa told the Catalan News Agency.
Although it is known as the "international" fireworks contest, the companies competing this year are actually from the Valencia, Murcia, and Aragon regions of Spain – according to Canosa, these are "the best in the world."
The Fireworks Contest coincides with Blanes' festa major summer festivities, which will see performances from Catalan bands such as Suu and Buhos or even the Red Hot Chilli Covers.
