Barcelona’s Pedralbes Gardens transform into Christmas forest of light
Special seasonal exhibition can be visited until January 9
The Pedralbes Gardens in Barcelona have been transformed into a forest of light for the Christmas season.
Inaugurated on Tuesday, the lighting installation in the park, titled 'Natura encesa', reinvents Christmas lights to become a new immersive experience this holiday season.
A million LED lights stretching more than a kilometer of wiring now decorate the city gardens forming different shapes such as flowers, schools of fish, vultures, storks, and more.
The figures light up to represent different life forms on the planet as well as the four elements of air, water, earth and fire.
The artistic lumination is also aimed at acting as an “environmental critique,” pushing for more protection of biodiversity and the conservation of natural space, as explained by Iñaki Fernández, producer of the light show, at the inauguration.
Following past successes in the other Spanish cities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Madrid, the installation has landed in Barcelona with a special lens pointed at 'Life'. It proposes a route through the gardens to immerse yourself in the four elements of the earth.
'Natura encesa' is a show appropriate for all ages and can be visited every day from 6pm to 10pm until 9 January.
The organization highlighted the "wonderful" reception it has received from the public, as 50,000 tickets had already been sold before opening.
