The Who announce orchestrated rock show in Barcelona next June
English rock legends tour Europe for first time in 7 years
English rock band The Who have announced European tour dates, including a stop in Barcelona’s Palau Sant Jordi on June 14, 2023, where the group will be accompanied by a full orchestra.
The Barcelona show is part of an extension of the band’s 'The Who Hits Back' tour that traveled the United States this year. With Berlin, Paris and Florence as the only other stops, the rock legends known for hits such as ‘Baba O’Riley’ and ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ return to tour Europe for the first time in seven years.
“I am looking forward to visiting these beautiful cities to see our old fans, and hopefully meet some new ones,” said lead singer and guitarist Pete Townshend, adding that the European tour passes through four of his “favorite cities in the world.”
The Who came together back in the 1960s and are considered one of the most influential names in rock music. The group was inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.
The band will perform highlights out of their nearly 60-year long career, including sections dedicated to classic albums ‘Tommy’ and ‘Quadrophenia’ and some tracks from their 2019 album ‘WHO’, the band’s first release in 13 years.
“This show is one that I personally enjoy more than any other I have done in the 60 years I have been working with Roger Daltrey,” Townshend said of the orchestrated rock show.
The American leg of the tour received very positive reviews, with The Guardian writing that the full orchestra had an “electrifying effect" and The Times commenting that it was "impossible not to feel the visceral power."
Tickets will be available on the Live Nation website where a presale starts on December 13. General tickets go on sale the day after at 10am.
