Springsteen announces second concert in Barcelona, tickets already available
American musician sells out first gig in Catalan capital within minutes
Bruce Springsteen announced he will be playing a second concert in Barcelona next April - but tickets, which went on sale on entradas.com and doctormusic.com for €65 to €125, were no longer available under an hour later.
The new gig was announced on Wednesday at 10:30 am, only half an hour after the tickets for his first concert, two days earlier on April 28, 2023, went on sale - and sold out in half an hour.
"A spectacular demand for tickets"
Indeed, concert organizers Doctor Music said the decision to put on a second performance was made due to "a spectacular demand for tickets" to see Springsteen, who will be accompanied by the E Street Band.
Neo Sala, the founder and CEO of Doctor Music, told RAC 1 radio station on Wednesday morning that he was surprised by just how quickly tickets had sold out: "I've never seen anything like this in our country before."
"When the Americans realized how well sales for the concert were doing, they made the second date available," he added.
Yet, there will be no other opportunities to see The Boss in the city, or anywhere else in Spain, next year, because April 30 "is the only additional date available" and it is "not possible to add more concerts."
"Barcelona joins the list of cities that have expanded the number of shows due to the sheer demand for tickets," a statement from Doctor Music reads.
Both events will take place at Barcelona's Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, located on top of Montjuïc hill, with a capacity for approximately 55,000 people.
The first one will be especially emblematic since it will be the first on Springsteen's 2023 European tour.
It will be his first visit since his performance in Catalonia in May 2016, when he also chose Barcelona as the starting point for his European tour.
The last time Springsteen came to the Catalan city, he performed at Camp Nou, the FC Barcelona football stadium. The American singer will now perform at what will be the team's temporary field as the Camp Nou undergoes renovations.
Springsteen’s close relationship with Barcelona
Barcelona has been the only tour date in Spain for many international artists. In 2015, Madonna, U2, Bjork, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé, to name but a few, chose the Catalan capital to present their latest albums and in many cases offered more than one concert.
However, Bruce Springsteen deserves special mention. He has visited Barcelona more than 12 times since 1981 and some of the concerts have been real milestones. The Catalan capital hosted a double concert on the E Street Band reunion world tour, in 1999, and in 2002 'Live in Barcelona' was the first Springsteen album to be recorded outside of the United States.
