Sharon Stone cancels Barcelona concert appearance due to Los Angeles wildfires
Actress was set to narrate Rufus Wainwright's Dream Requiem at the Palau de la Música on January 25
American actress Sharon Stone will not participate in the concert Dream Requiem by Rufus Wainwright at the Palau de la Música on January 25, the venue announced on Friday.
The Hollywood star has decided to cancel her trip to Barcelona due to the devastating wildfires in her hometown of Los Angeles.
The screen icon had to evacuate her home as a precaution and has decided to stay in the area "during this devastating moment to take care of her home, family and community".
"The actress is actively working to help families displaced by the wildfires and has been asked by authorities to evacuate her residence. It is possible that her home may be affected by the fires in the coming days," the Palau de la Música said.
Stone was originally scheduled to narrate Rufus Wainwright's Dream Requiem, which is being performed in Spain for the first time. In her absence, Wainwright will narrate the 80-minute composition.
"I am deeply saddened that Sharon cannot come to Barcelona to narrate Dream Requiem, a piece that directly reflects what my fellow citizens in Los Angeles are experiencing right now: climate disasters and ecological collapse," said the Canadian-American songwriter.
"At the same time, I am honored to have the opportunity to narrate my own work as its composer. It is both a privilege and an honor that this will take place at the Palau de la Música, one of the theaters where I have performed the most and which I love the most. I have always felt warmly received by the Catalan public," he added.
