Barcelona (CNA).- The British singer Seal will present his new album ‘7’ on the 23rd of July at the 30th Castell de Peralada Festival, after more than 10 years off the stage. A few days later, on the 30th of July, the Canadian jazz artist Diana Krall will stop in Peralada as part of the world tour to present her latest album ‘Wallflower’. This will be the first time that the Brit and Grammy Award-winning singer will perform at the festival, whereas Krall returns after her performance in 2008. Tickets for both concerts will be available online this Thursday and the prices range from €55 to €160. Another highlight of the 30th edition of the Castell de Peralada Festival will be Puccini’s Turandot, directed by Catalan actor and director, Mario Gas.
Both artists will be performing at the festival their only dates in Catalonia. Seal will present his new album ‘7’, the first release since the British singer divorced from model Heidi Klum, in 2005. The album reunites him with producer Trevor Horn, with whom Seal used to collaborate. The songs on ‘7’ talk about rage and recklessness but also acceptance and happiness.
Diana Krall’s ‘Wallflower’, produced by David Foster, confirms her as one of the most lauded jazz singers of the present day. The album brings together popular songs from the sixties and contemporary songs; from Elton John to Bob Dylan, all the way to The Mamas and the Papas, the Eagles and Paul McCartney, to name a few.
The fascinating story Turandot by Puccini, one of the most highly esteemed operas around the world, will be coming to Peralada for the first time, in celebration of the Festival’s 30th anniversary. Puccini’s last opera will be presented at the festival in a new production under the stage direction of Mario Gas, with set design by Paco Azorín and boasting an outstanding cast starring soprano Irene Theorin as Princess Turandot, tenor Roberto Aronica as Calaf, and soprano Maria Katzarava as Liu. A production featuring the Barcelona Gran Teatre del Liceu Orchestra and the Intermezzo Choir, under the baton and direction of Giampaolo Bisanti and José Luis Basso.
30 years of one of Catalonia’s most special festivals
Founded in 1987 out of the love of music of its president, Carmen Mateu, the Castell de Peralada Festival is one of the major art events of the summer in Catalonia. Besides the wide range of international artists which have performed in the festival, the location and the productions specially designed for the festival make it a truly genuine experience. Together with its gardens, the mediaeval Castell de Peralada is the setting for the Castell de Peralada Festival during the months of July and August. History and prestige characterise the festival which, both for its artistic events and the exceptional nature of the setting in which it is staged, places this mediaeval town as the cultural and leisure centre of summer nights on the Costa Brava.
