Primavera Sound music festival will not hold Madrid edition in 2024
Organizers to focus on Barcelona and Porto shows after "most complicated edition" in Spanish capital
One of Barcelona's most famous music festivals, the Primavera Sound, will not hold a Madrid edition in 2024 after having to organize the "most complicated edition" since the company started.
Organizers announced the decision in a written statement on Friday after "many weeks of profound analysis of the first edition of Primavera Sound Madrid."
Despite the city welcoming the festival "with open hands, the external difficulties that the show had to face during the last days of preparation made it one of the most complicated editions possible that Primavera Sound has had to face ever," the text reads.
One of the main reasons behind the decision is that "the city does not have a place, ready for 2024, where the festival can take place with all guarantees and requirements of the public, production, and the musical line up," the statement follows.
"The overall outcome of the festival was satisfactory on a musical scale," Aludena Heredero, Primavera Sound Madrid director, wrote. However, "what we expected and the public's experience were not the ones desired," she added.
The first day of the show, Thursday had to be canceled due to adverse weather forecast, and there were many traffic jams and queues.
Primavera Sound will continue to find alternative options to continue its relationship with the Spanish capital after holding the first edition in Madrid in June, mirroring the one held in Barcelona the previous week.
The team is preparing Barcelona's next edition, which will occur from May 30 to June 2, and in Porto, from June 7 to 9.
