Primavera Sound cancels Madrid Thursday festival due to adverse weather forecast
Day tickets automatically valid for Friday or Saturday, which are currently still expected to go ahead
Primavera Sound was due to kick off in earnest in Madrid on Thursday, but concert-goers will have to wait one more day for that, as the opening day of the festival in the Spanish capital has been called off due to the adverse weather forecast.
Blur, who were due to play at the festival on Thursday, will perform a gig in the venue La Riviera at 8 pm.
The Boiler Room x CUPRA schedule will take place in The Bassement instead. Tickets for each show will be exclusively available to full festival ticket holders and Thursday day ticket holders and will be free of extra charge.
For the moment it is still expected that the Friday and Saturday sessions will go ahead.
"Due to the persistent severe weather experienced in recent weeks that have affected the pre-production of the festival and in view of the adverse forecast that is expected for Thursday 8th June, with heavy storms during the afternoon, in close coordination and in agreement with the City Council and the local police force of Arganda del Rey and following the recommendations of the relevant technical reports, the Primavera Sound Madrid event on Thursday 8th June in the Ciudad del Rock of Arganda del Rey is cancelled for safety reasons, as well as the activity in the Cívitas Metropolitano scheduled for this Thursday," a statement read.
Thursday day tickets will be automatically valid for either Friday or Saturday without the need to do anything, while fans will also get a full refund if they do nothing.
Primavera Sound has yet to mention any form of compensation for full festival ticket holders.
This is the first year Primavera Sound are holding a music festival in Madrid in an edition mirroring last week's Barcelona lineup.
On Thursday, artists such as Blur, New Order, Halsey, Le Tigre, NxWorries, and others were due to perform.
