PortAventura World, located right outside of Barcelona, launched 'Hysteria in Boothill' which is the first mixed reality (MR) immersive experience in a theme park worldwide.

The park's Halloween season features different props throughout the park. The paranormal story, Hysteria, is recommended for ages 14 and up.

'Hysteria in Boothill' is set in an old west house, and participants walk around searching for the bodies of a family who disappeared. The aerial distance of the MR spans over 200 square meters, almost the size of a tennis court.

The attraction uses the Meta Quest 3 headset which has specialized personal audio. The experience is said to have participants interact with both real and virtual supernatural elements.

MR combines real views with interactive generated elements. In contrast, Augmented Reality (AR), which has also gained significant popularity, overlays elements onto the real world without interaction.

The PortAventura attraction accommodates up to six people per session and is available in Catalan, English, French, and Spanish.

Halloween season at the park ends on November 10; however, the park plans to keep the immersive experience all year.
