The Tony Award-winning musical ‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’ returns to Barcelona to “talk about diversity and love" and to "make everyone dance” again, eight years after it first premiered in the Catalan capital.

The Tívoli Theatre will host the jukebox musical based on the Oscar-winning film ‘The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’ for ten weeks starting on October 2 until November 24, 2024.

‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’ tells the story of three friends – two drag queens and a trans woman – who take a road trip in a rundown bus through the Australian outback, all while performing some of the world’s biggest disco hits.

There will be more than 20 musical performances with songs like 'I Will Survive', 'Like a Prayer', 'It's Raining Men', and 'Material Girl', among many others.

"It’s like you’re in a disco, but at the same time you are in a theater. It's amazing," says Pepe Ocio, artistic director of 'Priscilla'.

However, there is more in the play than just the songs. "The musical talks about diversity, about being whoever you want to be, and the right to express yourself," Ocio emphasized.

"The movie came out 30 years ago and society has changed a lot. But it is still important to remind people of this message," the artistic director added.

The show will see more than 200 outfit changes and a wardrobe created with 500 garments and 200 wigs. "It is a challenge for the technical and creative team," Ocio said.

Since the musical adaptation of 'Priscilla, Queen of the Desert' first premiered in Sydney in 2006, the play has been put on in 135 cities, adding Barcelona to the list for the first time in 2016.

Tickets to the musical are available on the official website and the prices range from 20€ to 63€.
