Music, geometry and light paint life into the Palau Güell
To celebrate the century since the death of the patron of the arts Eusebi Güell, his namesake home has opened its doors to exhibits, music, and audiovisual performances
While many may know the name of Antoni Gaudí, fewer are familiar the name behind one of his most famous structures, without the patronage of whom his work might not have been possible: Eusebi Güell, Catalan industrialist, politician, and philanthropist.
Another Gaudí masterpiece bearing the name, the Palau Güell, stands right in the heart of Barcelona. And since this year marks a century since the entrepreneur’s death, ‘L’any Güell’ or the Year of Güell in English, an innovative audiovisual performance took place on the very geometrical ceilings that Gaudí designed.
It’s in honor of this that the audiovisual art duo Santi Vilanova (composer) and Eloi Maduell (audiovisual artist) created the ‘Parabolic Gaudí’ mapping. A symbiosis of music, architecture, and visual arts, the dome is transformed into a living, breathing canvas. Those interested can see the display every Friday, from November until March (showing at 6pm and 8pm), and from April until October, at 8pm.
