Over a hundred people attended the Miravisions photojournalism event in the western municipality of Juneda, near Lleida. For the fifth year in a row, industry professionals gathered to discuss and engage in debates about the current state of photojournalism in Catalonia.

'La Mira' magazine, the promoters of Miravisions, consider the event to be the "meeting point" for photographers based in the region.

During the two-day summit, the prestigious Premi Miravisions is awarded to the best photojournalism works of the year.

Among the attendees were internationally renowned photographers Tino Soriano, Emilio Morenatti, and Jordi Borràs.

"Everyone knows that the last weekend of September" is when the event takes place, Magda Gregori, head of La Mira, told the Catalan News Agency (ACN).

The aim of Miravisions is to reflect on and debate the current state of the industry, which is "facing a lot of challenges." Nevertheless, these gatherings demonstrate that "many opportunities" exist to highlight the quality of work being produced, Gregori said.

Photojournalism in Catalonia is currently in a "good" place, but it remains a "precarious sector," noted Jordi Borràs, head of photography at La Mira. While there is significant public interest in press photographs and exhibition displays, making a living from this work "is difficult," leading many photographers to leave the region.
