Kim Gordon, Bikini Kill, and Chromatics announced for Primavera Sound 2020
Eleven new acts, all female and of hugely varying genres and style, added to highly-promising line-up
Primavera Sound has announced eleven new artists to play in 2020, joining Pavement in the lineup for the 20th edition of Barcelona’s biggest music festival. All eleven acts are female, giving next year’s festival a strong feminist tone from the off.
Kim Gordon, Bikini Kill, Chromatics, Lorena Álvarez, Maria del Mar Bonet, Les Amazones D'Afrique, Jenny Hval, La Favi, Sudan Archives, Park Hye Jin, Mavis Staples are the eleven acts confirmed.
Bikini Kill were central to the Riot grrrl underground feminist punk movement in the 1990s and are returning to the stage 22 years later. Kim Gordon formed part of the alternative rock group Sonic Youth, and her latest album No Home Record has received rave reviews.
Mavis Staples has been in the business for nearly 70 years and will undoubtedly blow the crowd away with her gospel and soul set. Malian supergroup Les Amazones D'Afrique offer truly unique world music sounds that will no doubt be unmatched for the whole festival.
Once again, even with so few acts announced to date, Primavera Sound will deliver an eclectic lineup with something for everyone, and at least something new for everyone to discover too.
In just these eleven new artists posted to play in Barcelona next June, a diverse array of genres are covered, between punk, electronic, techno, soul, RnB, alternative rock, reggaeton, avant-garde art-folk, and even Catalan folk.
Shortly after the 2019 Primavera Sound festival, Pavement were announced to reunite and play their first show in a decade in the 2020 edition.
Next year’s festival takes place between June 4-6 in Barcelona’s Parc del Fòrum.
