Irish musician Hozier captivates audience in sold-out concert at Barcelona's Alma Festival

Irish musician and singer-songwriter Andre John Hozier-Byrne, more commonly known as Hozier, captivated the Alma music festival audience on Sunday night in front of thousands with some of his hits.

The sold-out concert, one of the first to sell all tickets in the festival taking place at Poble Espanyol in Barcelona, lasted around 1:30 hours and started with 'Eat Your Young.'

Hozier's audience, around 5,000 people, enjoyed the mix of folk, soul, and blues melodies with topics that take political and even social justice stances.

Some of the other hits played during the gig were 'To Be Alone,' 'Francesca,' and 'Nina Cried Power' among many more. However, spectators could not resist singing along during one of his most recent releases: 'Too Sweet.'

The public knew all the song by heart, with the chorus: 'I'd rather take my whiskey neat, my coffee black, and my bed at three…'

Hozier, who became globally acclaimed in 2013 with his hit 'Take Me to Church,' had the show at Poble Espanyol almost over with the anthem that saw him reach number two on the Billboard Hot 100.

He still had one more hit to close the night in front of many, mainly an English-speaking audience, 'Work Song' A song he sang accompanied by an LGBTQ+ flag that appeared on stage almost at the end of the concert.

During the show, Hozier took the opportunity to make a speech highlighting the importance of the communities that fight for their rights, such as the LGBTQ+, but also called for a ceasefire in the Middle East. 

Hozier will continue touring worldwide, with Madrid's WiZink Center being his next stop on Monday, July 1.
