Filmmaker Tim Burton visits Barcelona for opening of new immersive exhibition
'Tim Burton's Labyrinth', a look into the legendary director's creative universe, open now
Filmmaker Tim Burton is visiting the city of Barcelona for the opening of the exhibition 'Tim Burton's Labyrinth', which has toured various European cities and is now open in the Catalan capital.
The exhibition is a journey through the mind of the legendary American director through his creative universe, which goes beyond film productions and also delves into other aspects of his work, including displaying around 200 original drawings, many previously unpublished.
The exhibition was created by the production company Letgo in collaboration with the filmmaker himself and is open now in the Palau de Victòria Eugènia in Montjuïc.
A few hours before the opening of the exhibition in Barcelona, the filmmaker was spotted in various different locations in the Catalan capital, such as outside the Sant Pau modernist hospital.
Ths hospital even went as far as thanking Burton on social media platforms for his interest "in discovering the work of [architect] Domènech i Montaner and its links with the history of medicine and the city."
After successful stops in Paris, Brussels and Madrid with a total of 600,000 visitors, more than 20,000 tickets were already sold a month in advance of 'Tim Burton's Labyrinth' opening in the Catalan capital.
The immersive experience consists of an hour-long labyrinth-like route that allows visitors to choose their own path through themed rooms filled with lights, music, projections, sculptures and meticulous details that bring Burton's cinematic gems to life.
Thus, just by entering, a random button directs a small group to a specific room and from there, the decision falls into the hands of each visitor, who will have to decide which doors they want to pass through until they reach the end of the tour.
"It is a journey through Tim Burton's mind - as he describes it - that gathers his entire cinematic, artistic and narrative universe and transforms it into a physical and sensory voyage," says Elena Garrán, communications director of Letsgo, the creative team behind the exhibition.
The exhibit is family-friendly and suitable for all audiences. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet beloved characters from Burton's acclaimed films, including Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, and many more.
