FilmInCat responds to demand for international cinema in Catalan
The first digital platform to distribute European cinema and television series in Catalan was launched on Friday in Barcelona
Barcelona.- “We will bring the world of international cinema and TV series to a large audience of Catalan speakers in Spain and Andorra,” said Juan Carlos Tous, CEO of Filmin, a digital platform specialized in independent movies with more than 10.000 titles online. “We realized that with FilmInCat we could win a new audience. There is a demand from people who want to see cinema and television series, and they want to watch them in Catalan,” Tous explained at the launch of the new platform on Friday in Barcelona. According to FilmIn, the objective of the Catalan version is to bring “international high quality cinema and television series to Catalonia and Andorra” with Catalan subtitles or directly dubbed in Catalan. Therefore, 60% of the offer will be dedicated to European cinema. The company also wants to promote independent movies “that didn’t make it to the big screen”. FilmInCat is accessible from any device connected to the Internet.
FilmInCat is a platform for the direct distribution of cinema and television series in Catalan “to a large audience” in Catalonia and the Principality of Andorra, as the CEO of FilmIn, Juan Carlos Tous, explained. The director of FilmIn also thanked distributors, universities and directors for their support, noting that "they understood" that FilmInCat would create "a space for a specific audience”. The project also received support from Creative Europe Media and the Catalan Government.
