'El 47' breaks records with 18 Gaudí Film Awards nominations
Nearly half of the nominated films are in Catalan, setting another record for Catalonia's most prestigious film awards
Catalan hit film 'El 47' has garnered 18 nominations for the Gaudí Film Awards, the most prestigious cinema awards in Catalonia. This marks the first time in history a film has received this many nominations.
Following closely behind are 'A House on Fire' and 'Polvo Serán' with fourteen nominations each, 'Saturn Return' with nine, and 'Salve Maria' with seven.
The nominees were announced on Thursday by actors Bruna Cusí and David Verdaguer at a ceremony held in La Pedrera.
This 17th edition of the awards arrives in a landmark year for Catalan cinema, with 47% of nominated films shot in Catalan.
Catalan films have also set a new public attendance record, with original versions, dubbed, or subtitled versions attracting nearly one million viewers, the best result in cinemas in the past 20 years.
The current success of Catalan cinema has been largely driven by 'El 47' and 'A House on Fire.'
'El 47' narrates the story of Manolo Vital, portrayed by actor Eduard Fernández, a bus driver who hijacks a bus and drives it to Torre Baró, the neighborhood where he lives, to protest the lack of public transport.
'A House on Fire.' also known by its Catalan title 'Casa en flames,' is a dramatic comedy that explores the reunion of a middle-class Catalan family over a weekend on the Costa Brava.
The Gaudí Film Awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025.
