Dua Lipa crowns first night of second Primavera Sound weekend
Attendees also got to enjoy Gorillaz, Bad Gyal, Interpol, and Metronomy
The second weekend of the 2022 Primavera Sound music festival started on Thursday night in the Parc del Fòrum venue with several international artists including headliner Dua Lipa, who performed hits such as ‘Physical’, ‘Levitating’ or ‘One Kiss’.
While her show was one of the most-awaited, other groups such as the British band, Gorillaz, attracted a large audience. This was the second time the group performed at Primavera Sound as they were also among the first weekend headliners.
Lead singer Damon Albarn's band performed some of their latest songs from their seventh album, ‘Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez’. And as was the case the first weekend of the festival, their performance was accompanied by several animated projections on a big screen on the stage.
Dua Lipa’s act at the end of the night, however, was the busiest concert, which took place after Gorillaz and Interpol.
It was Lipa's second show in Barcelona in two weeks as she played for a sold-out Palau Sant Jordi on June 1 as part of her Nostalgia World Tour show.
The British singer had another surprise for her fans: Angèle, a Belgian musician, got on stage to sing ‘Fever’ with her.
Another highly anticipated artist was Catalan singer Bad Gyal, who sang at 2 am on a smaller stage but still got a lot of attention and many shares on social media.
But once Dua Lipa finished her performance, the vast majority of people began to leave, although English band Metronomy marked the end of the second weekend's first night.
Reorganizing stands and facilities
Primavera Sound got off to a bumpy start when on the first night of the festival, dozens took it to social media to denounce a "dangerously oversold" show. This was the first edition of the festival since 2019, and to celebrate its 20th anniversary and to recover from the Covid-19 hiatus, organizers decided to host a two-weekend event.
Many attendees felt unsafe in the venue as there were reports of “very scary bottlenecks” of crowds trying to move from one area to another, and other reports of crowds of people being pressed together.
Spectators also complained about the lack of water fountains, something organizers solved ahead of the second night of the festival.
The fourth night, Thursday, was a new attempt to show that the first hiccough was only a minor issue after years without Primavera Sound.
In fact, during the week, the festival organizers planned the layout of the venue again "to guarantee that the experience of the Parc del Fòrum venue was as great as possible."
Among other changes, they modified one of the biggest food stands and moved it to another location to make it more comfortable for attendees waiting in line. This also made access to one of the main stages much easier as well.
Brunch-on-the-Beach tickets sold out in minutes
Music fans took to social media to complain about Primavera Sound's organization of the Brunch-on-the-Beach event, with some lamenting just how quickly tickets had sold out: "One minute, what a surprise."
"Surprise!! Another chaotic and disorganized part of the festival," Lewis Clark wrote.
"This has to be a big joke… probably the day I was looking forward to most, and it sold out instantly with no advanced warning. Wtf is wrong with you guys?" James said in a comment that has over 600 likes.
