Catalan video game Neva wins The Game Awards' Games for Impact
Nomada Studio work follows successful first game, Gris, awarded in 2019
Catalan videogame Neva has won the Games for Impact prize at the The Game Awards, the most prestigious accolades in the industry.
Developed by Nomada Studio, Neva follows the same path as its first game, Gris, which also won the award in 2019.
Neva is the studio's second video game, released on October 15. It focuses on Alba, the main character, who starts a dangerous adventure with a wolf.
The game reflects on the relations between parents and their children.
Neva won the Games for Impact category for its thought-provoking game with a pro-social meaning or message.
Other candidates were 'Closer the Distance' by Osmotic Studios, 'Indika' by Odd Meter, 'Life is Strange: Double Exposure' by Deck Nine, 'Senua's Saga: Hellblade II' by Ninja Theory, and 'Tales of Kenzera: Zau' by Surgent Studios.
Nomada Studio's work was also nominated for the Best Independent Game Award and the Best Art Direction but did not win.
During the ceremony held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, US, Nomada Studio co-founder Adrián Cuevas said that the award was "dedicated to the whole team that made the game possible."
Cuevas also praised the work done by Devolver Digital, the platform where the game was launched, for their offer to accept such games and that they are hoping to "continue collaborating in the future."
"Finally, I want to thank our video game players, as it is surprising to see how they approach the stories. We love seeing you enjoying the game," he added.
