Catalan magician's one-man show becomes highest earning in one week in Broadway history
El Mago Pop's performance in Ethel Barrymore Theatre took in $2,717,000 ahead of October Barcelona return
The Broadway show of Catalan magician El Mago Pop has become the highest-earning one-person show in one week in the history of the New York theater district.
Antonio Díaz's show at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre took in $2,717,000 in just one week, surpassing other shows such as 'The Lion King', 'Hamilton' and 'Funny Girl'.
Stars such as Fred Astaire, Marlon Brando and more recently Cate Blanchett and Daniel Craig have previously performed in this same space.
From October 25, the magician's show will return to the Teatre Victòria in Barcelona.
El Mago Pop made his first appearance on live US television in late July, performing a "mind-blowing" trick where he teleported four people from one end to the other of the Rockefeller Plaza in New York.
Mago Pop debuted in the Barrymore Theatre on August 17 with his show "Nothing is impossible" (Nada es imposible), becoming the youngest illusionist to ever perform at the heart of the American commercial theatrical industry. "I am really excited, being on Broadway is my dream," Díaz confessed when being interviewed on the TODAY Show.
