Catalan Book Week kicks off with record number of exhibitors and new venue
From September 20-29, Barcelona's Arc de Triomf will host poetry readings, concerts, debates, book signings, and more
Catalan Book Week kicked off in Barcelona on Friday, bringing together the publishing industry for a vibrant literary festival.
The event, which runs from September 20 to 29, is expected to attract nearly 300 exhibitors, the highest number yet.
Unlike previous editions, this year's Catalan Book Week will take place on Passeig Lluís Companys, near the Arc de Triomf.
Normally held at the Moll de la Fusta, the change of venue was necessary due to the America's Cup event.
The event will also include a variety of cultural activities such as poetry readings, concerts, debates, book signings and more.
There will be more than 150 author signings and the launch of more than a hundred new books for adults, young adults and children in a variety of formats.
Last year's festival attracted 62,000 attendees and saw a 20% increase in sales, and organizers hope to continue that upward trend.
This year, the festival coincides with Barcelona's La Mercè, which organizers describe as "a challenge" but are optimistic that the two events will "complement" each other.
