The film 'Carry-On' by Catalan director Jaume Collet-Serra has become the second most-watched worldwide movie in Netflix's history since its release on December 13.

The action thriller is set at Los Angeles airport and centers around the blackmail of a security agent by a mysterious passenger to let him bring a suspicious suitcase on a plane.

In three months, the film starring Taron Egerton, Sofia Carson and Jason Bateman has accumulated 172.1 million views, according to data from the platform itself.

Carry-On has surpassed movies such as 'Don't Look Up' with 171.4 million views, starring  Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, and Timothée Chalamet, to name a few. Collet-Serra's movie also surpassed 'The Adam Project' with 157.6 million, and Sandra Bullock's Bird Box with 157.4 million views.

Only in the first three weeks, the movie accumulated 132 million views, making it the best opening a film has had on Netflix since data became available in June 2023.

The film, which takes place on Christmas Eve, was the leader of the ranking in about fifty countries the week of December 25.

In the first three days since its release on the streaming platform, it had already accumulated 42 million views. The following week, which began on December 16, the figure soared to 55.1 million, the highest weekly view count of any film on Netflix in seven days since data has been provided weekly.

During Christmas week, the film was played a further 34.9 million more times.

'Society of the Snow' by Catalan director J.A. Bayona remains with 98.5 million views, making it the third-most watched non-English-language film on the platform.

Netflix only shares viewership data for the first 91 days following a movie release.
