The Barcelona-Sant Jordi International Film Festival, better known as BCN Film Fest, announced its program for the 2025 edition.  

Offering a selection of international films on subjects such as literature, historical events or famous figures, the festival will take place from April 24 to May 2 in Barcelona

This year, the festival will pay tribute to the Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni with a retrospective on the centenary of his birth.  

Movies he starred in, such as 'La Dolce Vita' or ' La Notte' will be shown. 

Conxita Casanovas, director of BCN Film Fest said the retrospective could be "a surprise for young people who dare to come and discover him." 

The festival will open with a showing of 'A House on Fire' ('Casa en flames'), the Gaudí Award-winning movie by Dani de la Orden.  

The success of the movie, "sets the bar very high for us and stimulates us to continue working with desire and enthusiasm," Casanovas said.

Competition selection 

The festival will premiere 'La Furgo', a Catalan movie by Eloy Calvo based on a comic. 

The film starring Pol López tells the story of a divorced man trying to regain economic and family stability. 

Some other international movies in the competition section are 'Reading Lolita in Tehran', by Eran Riklis; 'Small Things Like These', by Time Mielants with Irish actor Cillian Murphy, and 'The Quiet Son', by Delphine Coulin and Muriel Coulin with French actor Vincent Lindon 

Sergi Belbel, Sílvia Munt and José Corbacho will be this year's jury. A new editing award will also be introduced. 

Out-of-competition section 

American actor Richard Gere will present 'Wisdom of happiness', a documentary he produced. 

The film by Philip Delaquis and Barbara Miller deals with the world of the Dalai Lama.  

Other films in this section are 'Diamanti', by Ferzan Özpetek, with Jasmine Trinca, Luisa Ranieri and Stefano Accorsi and the animated film 'The Most Precious of Cargoes', by Michel Hazanavicius. 

BCN Film Fest will screen a selection of Asian movies such as the romantic comedy 'Office' by Johnnie To and 'Perfect Days' by Wim Wenders. 

Two movies will feature in the 'Cinema with Gràcia' category, often featuring movies aimed at a wider audience: 'Jane Austen Wrecked My Life', the first movie from French director Laura Piani, and 'Bob Trevino likes it' by American director Tracie Laymon.
