Barcelona will be the city guest of honor at the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) in 2025.

The news was announced on Tuesday morning by the mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, who participated in the event remotely due to testing positive for Covid-19.

The FIL, one of the biggest and most important cultural events in Latin America, combines three separate events taking place over the span of nine days. It's attended by 750 authors from 49 countries. The event has been held annually since 1987.

In order to fully prepare for the event, the Barcelona City Council will establish two new roles: a curator, to define the content of the city's presence at the fair, and a city promoter, to foment public-private collaboration.
