Barcelona to be guest of honour of Guadalajara Book Fair 2025
In a symbolic ceremony, Barcelona replaces Spain as guest of honor of the festival
Next year's edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico will take place from November 29 to December 7, 2025, with Barcelona as guest of honour.
The book festival, one of the most important in the Spanish-speaking world, closed this year's edition in the capital of the state of Jalisco.
A handover ceremony was held on December 8 during which the visual identity of the guest city of Barcelona was unveiled.
For the occasion, the graphic identity of the event was made in Barcelona by Bakoom studio.
As is tradition, the image of the guest city becomes the image of the entire fair, but this is the first time that the graphic identity of the festival has been designed outside of Mexico.
The visual unites two elements of Catalan culture, books and flowers.
Barcelona's participation in the festival, curated by the literary journalist Anna Guitart, will focus on Mercè Rodoreda, a famous Catalan author.
The ceremony was also a tribute to the work of the author with a performance of the group 'L'Arannà' that reproduces Rodoreda's universe through music.
Barcelona's attendance as a guest city in the festival coincides with the 10 year anniversary of its nomination as a Literary City by UNESCO in 2015.
