Art Nou, the festival that showcases local and international emerging artists, kicks off its 12th edition on June 28, and will run until September 1 at various venues throughout Barcelona and neighboring L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

The festival "offers the opportunity for young national and international creators to take their first step on the contemporary art circuit through galleries, self-managed art spaces and institutions."

Almost 50 artists will be represented in 34 exhibitions, across 39 galleries and independent spaces, with identity, race and colonialism some of the recurring themes.

There is also an extensive program of free parallel activities open to everyone.
