On the famous American late-night sketch show Saturday Night Live (SNL), actor Jerry Seinfeld joked about doing an interview in Catalan

Seinfeld played himself as an overworked actor doing too many press interviews during SNL's famous 'Weekend Update' segment.

During the sketch his phone ringed and he picked up saying American Spanish-language television network Univision, was calling him.

"What is this? Spanish, yeah fine, what is the dialect? Catalan? Yeah, I can do that," Seinfeld said during the sketch.

He finished off by joking that the host of the show he would do an interview for is called Pepa.

The SNL sketch was quickly shared on YouTube and currently has over 770,000 views

People quickly took to Twitter to correct Jerry Seinfeld on calling Catalan a dialect of Spanish.

One person noted that "in the world of cinema in the United States, Catalan is a dialect of Spanish that it spoken in Catalonia. They don't understand that a country can have more than one language."

Others also took it to social media to teach Seinfeld that “Catalan is a language and not a dialect,” as opposed to what the actor was saying on American TV.
