After remaining closed for the duration of the state of alarm, 80% of Spain's cinemas have once again opened to the public on Friday.

The first to do so in Catalonia, however, began to reopen in early June after entering Phase 2 of the lockdown de-escalation plan.

On June 5, a cinema in the town of Torroella de Montgrí, near Girona, became the first Catalan cinema to open and was gradually followed by others.

Movie theaters are yet another of the many businesses that have had to adapt to the so-called 'new normality' by putting in place new health and safety measures, including reducing the number of viewers per movie, ensuring everyone is wearing face masks or providing their clients with hand sanitizer.
