Village of 640 inhabitants aims to break Guinness World Record for soap bubbles in air
Montgai, in western Catalonia, recognized for it's soap-making traditions, will hold a trial run on Sunday

The small municipality of Montgai, a village with 640 inhabitants in western Catalonia, is aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the highest number of soap bubbles floating in the air at once.
Although the official attempt will take place next year, the town will carry out a trial run this Sunday during its soap and cosmetics fair called l'Ensabonada.
Participants will be provided with bubble-making devices and raincoats, and the event will even include technology to count the bubbles floating in the air to ensure precision.
Mayor Jaume Gilabert explained that this weekend’s event will be a large-scale experiment: "We’ll try to make thousands and thousands of bubbles at the same time, not for the record yet, since we didn’t register in time, but as a trial run for next year."

Montgai is known for its soap-making and was officially recognized by the Catalan government in 2017 as a 'village of unique soap-making heritage.'
The town's soap fair, organized to revive the village's 19th-century soap-making traditions, demonstrates the age-old techniques used by the town's "saboneres" (soap makers).
The fair will host over 28 Catalan artisans offering handmade soaps and natural cosmetics under their own brands.
Montgai is one of Catalonia's microvillages, situated in the Lleida region. Many of Catalonia's microvillages face problems like depopulation.
