Over 50% of Catalonia’s population vaccinated with the first dose

Over half of residents in Catalonia have now received at least one dose of the vaccine, making a combined 3,930,033 people (50.1%).

Out of those, 2,286,458 have also been administered a second dose (29.2% of the total population). 2,534,539  residents are considered to be fully immunized (32.3%). Under 65s who have already had the virus are only required to have the first dose, and others have received a single-dose jab. Therefore, the % of two doses administered and % fully immunized do not match.

As the summer approaches, and restrictions are gradually being eased, the vaccination rollout programme has gone from strength to strength. A week ago, on June 19, a new daily record of jabs was administered - 138,609. This beats the previous record of 125,106 set on June 8. 

Moreover, on Wednesday, vaccination appointments were made available to people aged between 35-39. 

Relaxation of measures

Nightclubs and late-night bars reopened until 3:30 am on June 21 for the first time in 15 months as authorities continue to ease Covid-19 restrictions. 

The 10-person cap on gatherings was lifted also on June 21, although larger groups of people are not advised to get together.

Face masks are no longer obligatory outdoors from June 26, as long as social distancing is guaranteed. In indoor public spaces they continue to be mandatory. 

The easing of further restrictions could also depend on the impact of the Delta variant, which is expected to become dominant in Catalonia in "two to four weeks". So far, it has led to a change in the trend of the pandemic, with the Covid-19 outbreak risk (105) and transmission rate (1.19) having now risen for 6 days in a row (an outbreak risk over 100 and R-rate over 1 are considered concerning).

Authorities continue to urge people to limit their social interactions and travel beyond their towns or cities of residence as well as to work from home when possible.
