75% of Catalan population now fully vaccinated
8 out of 10 residents 40 and over have already received both doses, with age groups between 20 and 34 seeing lowest rates
Catalonia has reached another Covid vaccination threshold, as 75% of its population has completed their inoculation against the virus.
The Covid-19 certificate mandate has resulted in a 64% increase in vaccinations this week. Authorities said on Saturday that, between Monday and Friday, 21,000 people received their first dose, a remarkable rise compared to the previous week, at 13,000.
According to the daily official figures released on Sunday, as of November 27, 2021, 5,946,364 residents are considered to be fully immunized (75%). Meanwhile, 6,042,649 residents have been given the first dose of the vaccine, 76.3% of the total population. Out of those, 5,238,273 have also been administered a second dose (66.3% of the total population).
Under 65s who have already had the virus are only required to have the first dose, and others have received a single-dose jab. Therefore, the % of two doses administered and % fully immunized do not match.
Taking into account only those eligible to get the jab, that is, those 12 and over, 85.6% of the population has received at least a dose and 84.1% are now fully vaccinated.
Elder residents surpass rates of 90%
Looking at the figures per age groups, those 40 and over have rates of over 80% of fully vaccination, as well as teenagers between 16 and 19 – the rest of categories oscillate between 70% and 75%.
93.8% of those aged 80 and above are now completely inoculated, the highest rate and a similar figure to those between 70 and 79 (93.6%).
90.1% of people between 66 and 69 are also considered fully immunized, as well as 89.3% of those between 60 and 65, 87.8% of residents aged 50 to 59, 84.3% of individuals in the 45 to 49 age group – exactly in the average of all groups eligible – and 80.5% of those who are 40 to 44.
As for people between 35 and 39, 75.1% have received all the needed doses, and people aged 30 to 34 see the lowest rate, 69.7%, a similar one to those between 20 to 29 (70.7%).
Teenagers have different behaviors, with the eldest ones (16 to 19 year-olds) reaching a rate of 81.1% and the youngest (12 to 15) at 73.5%.
The rollout for children between 5 and 11 is expected to begin soon.
Who has a right to a Covid-19 booster shot?
Third doses have also been approved for some population groups, and Catalonia has been giving them since September 17, 2021.
Booster shots will be given to over 70s, immunocompromised people, care home residents, and anyone who received the Janssen vaccine. Those in the 60 to 69 age group and health workers are expected to receive the third jab very soon.
As of November 27, 2021, Catalonia has administered 584,746 booster shots to these groups.
