Three months after 89-year-old nursing home resident Josefa Pérez became the first person in Catalonia to be inoculated against Covid-19, 10.04% of Catalonia's population has received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine.

Of the 774,947 residents who have had one dose as of March 27, 414,911—5.37% of the population—have had two doses, including 91.2% of nursing home residents, 60% of severely disabled people, and 22.8% of people over the age of 80.

As per health department guidelines, a person is considered to have had the complete prescribed dosage if they have either had two doses or if they are under 56, have already have Covid-19, and have had one shot. 5.5% of Catalonia's population falls into this category.

Slightly over two-thirds of nursing home staff and primary care professionals have had the complete dosage, while 61% of essential workers as a whole have received one dose, a figure that drops to 9.7% of those between the ages of 60 and 65.

500 mass vaccination sites

Last Tuesday, authorities announced plans to open 500 mass vaccination sites throughout Catalonia for the general population phase of the rollout plan.

Venues are set to include places like Barcelona's Fira exhibition center, which, once it is up and running, will have the capacity to administer 20,000 doses per day.

Vaccine rollout in Catalonia

If all goes according to plan, half of Catalonia's residents will have received "at least one dose" of a Covid-19 vaccine by June, while 30% will have had both, says health secretary general Marc Ramentol, although this will depend on whether there are no distribution delays.

Authorities have a stated aim of administering vaccines to 70% of the population by the end of August, which, according to them, would ensure group immunity.

Anyone who lives in Catalonia is entitled to receive the vaccine. To do so, they must ensure that they are registered with the public health system, CatSalut.
