Barcelona will debut new illuminous totems as Christmas decorations in all districts of the city this festive season.

These totems will be large figures of light in different shapes, such as reindeer, and will be placed in all districts of the city, including less central locations.

The official lighting ceremony will take place on November 28 and the streets will be lit up until January 6.

The council will also keep lights on for two hours longer each night this Christmas.

The lights will be switched on until 1 am between Sundays and Thursdays, and until 2 am on Fridays, Saturdays, and on Christmas Eve.

In addition, the city will also launch new routes to see emblematic shops in the city's old town, and facades of 14 unique buildings and hotels will be illuminated, including Torre de les Aigües del Besòs, the Masia de Torre Llobeta, the Vallcarca Viaduct, and the Casa Golferichs in Eixample.

In total, the council will allocate a budget of €3.3 million to the Christmas lights, 13% more than in 2023.

The light structures idea was first launched in 2021 in the city centre, and were selected from a design competition to create a unique image of Christmas in Barcelona.

This year, there will be 110 kilometers of space with lights, 6km more than last year.
