Spain named best economy of 2024 by The Economist newspaper
British newspaper says Spain grows more than 3% while other countries like Germany or UK 'disappoint'
The Economist has chosen Spain as the best economy in the world in 2024.
The British newspaper published a ranking on Wednesday that evaluates indicators such as real GDP growth, stock market returns, core inflation, unemployment and budget balances.
"In Spain, annual GDP growth is on track to exceed 3%, driven by a strong labor market and high levels of immigration, which mechanically lift economic output," says the newspaper.
The Economist highlights the good situation in the Mediterranean, with "strong recoveries" in Greece and Italy, "once emblematic of the euro zone's woes".
Meanwhile, the newspaper says that northern European countries such as Britain and Germany are "disappointing" with "underwhelming performances."
Spain's vice president María José Montero pointed to The Economist's ranking with irony toward the opposition conservative People's Party: "Who could imagine listening to the PP."
"The policies of PM Sánchez are a success: we are growing, creating jobs, expanding rights and reducing our public deficit," she said on X.
