Second best ever June for hotels in Catalonia
Some 6.4 million overnight stays last month just short of last year’s all-time record figure
Some 1,400,752 foreign visitors stayed in a hotel in Catalonia in June, a 2.7% rise compared with last year. While the overall number of visitors staying in a Catalan hotel fell slightly by 0.2%, to 2,175,660 people, the figures nevertheless reveal that it was the best June ever, after last year’s all-time record for a June.
In all, the number of overnight stays in hotels in Catalonia in June amounted to a total of 6.4 million nights, just 4.3% under last year’s record figure of 6.6 million. The figures from the Coyuntura Turística Hotelera, which compiles data relating to the hotel sector, were published by Spain’s official statistics office.
Catalonia was the second place in Spain with the highest number of overnight stays in hotels in June, accounting for 18% of the total, after the Canary Islands, which made up 26% of the total. In Spain as a whole, there were a total of 36,198,765 overnight stays in hotels in June, just 1.2% fewer than in the same month last year.
The average number of nights visitors stayed in each hotel in Spain in June was 3.3 nights per person, a slight fall of 3.2% compared to the same month last year. Meanwhile, the figures also show a small drop of 0.2% in the number of overnight stays in hotels in Spain for the first six months of this year compared with the same period in 2017.
