Property sales in Catalonia decrease 24.5% in May
Sales in Spain also decreased compared to same month last year
Property sales in Catalonia have decreased by 24.5% during the month of May compared to the same period last year.
In total, 6,798 operations were made, which is the lowest number since May 2020 amid the pandemic.
Of the more than 6,000 property sales, 1,238 were of new housing units and 5,660 were second-hand units, according to the provisional figures of Property Statistics published by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) on Monday.
400 of the total number of properties sold were social housing units.
Compared to the month of April, property sales have decreased by 15,8% in a month.
All four regions of Catalonia have seen a decrease in property sales, the biggest decline of 37% was in Lleida, followed by Barcelona's 36,38% decline in property sales compared to the same month in 2023.
In Spain, a total of 44,013 sale operations were registered, which is 21,5% less compared to last year and 17,1% less than the sales made in April.
