Pilots' union calls 4-day strike at Air Europa in May
Airline flies from Barcelona to Palma and Madrid
Sepla (the Spanish Airline Pilots' Union) has called a four-day pilot strike at Air Europa for May 1, 2, 4 and 5.
From Barcelona the airline has direct routes to Palma in Mallorca, where it is based, and to Madrid.
The union announced the strike on Wednesday, accusing Air Europa management of "playing with the rights of staff members, and dressing up as a proposal what actually amounts to a real loss of labor rights acquired in the sector's collective agreement."
In a statement, the union claimed that pilots feel "discriminated" by the company and that "yielding to the pressures of managers" would have resulted in "worse working conditions and wages in the short and medium term."
"What the union will not allow is a business management that seeks to profit at all costs against customers and workers", the statement read.
"Against the customers by increasing plane tickets by more than 54% in the last year and against the workers with arbitrary impositions and worsening working conditions."
