Minimum services for Barcelona airport security strike starting August 10 set at 90%
Staff to stop working from Thursday to Monday in complaint over abuse of authority
The Spanish government has set the minimum services for the Barcelona airport security and surveillance staff strike at 90% on Wednesday. The indefinite strike is set to begin on August 10, and will occur from Thursday to Monday in three different shifts.
Authorities establish the "essential" security work because of the terrorist alert in place, which currently stands at level four out of five. The airport is also considered a "critical infrastructure," and the strike will occur during one of the busiest times of the year for such a site.
Staff will stop working from 4 am to 7 am, from 9 am to 11 am, and from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Unions called the strike in a complaint over the abuse of authority and for "breaking agreements" of the company, I-Sec. Workers claim that the business is not considering the 10 minutes break per hour that staff has nor the family conciliation.
Workers are also asking the company to pay for the parking costs or to set up a free parking area, as well as a €50 monthly bonus for those guards who speak several languages. One of the other requests is for staff to have two weekends off each month.
