'It pissed me off a lot' – tourist reactions to taxi strike
Barcelona visitors complain about queues or having to walk but some also show sympathy for taxi drivers
Tourists arriving to Barcelona these days face an unwelcome image. No taxis available at the airport, for the sixth day in a row, due to a strike that has also blocked much of the city center and altered the route of bus services such as Aerobus.
Long queues can be seen these days to get from or to the airport, with many people also a bit disorientated because of the change of route of some of the buses due to roads being cut off.
Most of them expressed their frustration for the situation, although many also showed sympathy for the taxi drivers and their demands.
"It's pretty stupid, and it pissed me off a lot," said Ahmed, from Egypt. "I've just come from the airport, and I have my bag with me and I don't know how I can go home," he added.
"Being a tourist, it was a bit of a shock to us, but on the other hand, I have some sympathy for them," said Betty, from the US. Despite that, she added that, in her opinion, strikes often "really don't help anybody."
For French tourist Jérome, the strike "sucks because tourists have to walk" but is "necessary." "I think they have to do this because they will lose their job if there are too many Ubers," he said.
For now, tourists and visitors will have to continue showing patience, as the strike is not expected to be called off any time soon.
