Inflation in Spain has fallen to 1.5%, the lowest rate since March 2021 (1.3%), according to preliminary Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures for September released by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) on Friday.

The September inflation rate of 1.5% is eight tenths of a percentage point lower than in August, when it stood at 2.2%, which at the time was the lowest figure for 2024.

The last time inflation in Spain was below 2% was in June 2023 (1.9%).

The INE mainly attributes the drop in inflation to falling fuel prices and, "to a lesser extent, to the decrease in food and electricity prices, compared to the rise in September 2023."

It also points out that the prices for leisure and cultural activities fell more sharply than in the same month last year.
