Inflation in Catalonia falls to its lowest level in more than three years
Fall in fuel, electricity and food prices pushes inflation down to 1.7% in September
Catalonia registered an inflation of 1.7% in September, seven tenths lower than the previous month, according to data published on Tuesday by Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE).
This is the lowest since March 2021, when inflation was 1.3% as prices began to rise due to the war in Ukraine.
The decline has been fueled by the drop in fuel prices and, to a lesser extent, the fall in electricity and food prices.
Fuel prices fell 11.6% compared to last year, and it is the third consecutive month with lower prices than last year.
Prices of olive oil, legumes, vegetables, milk and sugar fell significantly compared to September last year.
However, core inflation, which does not include the most volatile prices such as energy and food, remained at 2.7%, two tenths lower than in August and three points lower than a year ago.
In Spain as a whole, inflation also fell to 1.5%, the lowest level since March 2021, according to preliminary data from INE.
The figure is eight tenths of a percentage point lower than in August, when it stood at 2.2%, which at the time was the lowest figure for 2024.
The last time inflation in Spain was below 2% was in June 2023 (1.9%).
