Inflation in Catalonia rose to 2.9% in December, according to latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) figures published by Spain's National Institute of Statistics on Wednesday.

The figure marks an increase on November, when the annual inflation rate was 2.6%.

After a year marked by the rising cost of groceries, the increase in food and drink prices eased to 1.9% in Catalonia, well below the 6.8% recorded in December 2023.

The price of housing and utilities rose by 7.1%.

Spain

The annual inflation rate for Spain as a whole was just below the Catalan rate, at 2.8%, up from 2.4% in November.

The increase was mainly due to fuel prices, which saw a drop in December 2023.

To a lesser extent, the increase can also be attributed to the price of leisure and cultural activities, which rose more December 2024 than the same month the previous year.
