Inflation drops to 8.5% in Catalonia in September
Rate of change of prices sees fall of 1.7 percentage points compared with previous month
Inflation in Catalonia eased in September, with the latest figures released by Spain's National Statistics Institute on Friday morning showing the rate has dropped to 8.5%.
This represents a drop of 1.7 percentage points compared with the figures from August, when inflation reached 10.2%. August was the second-highest rate ever recorded, only behind July's rate of 10.3%.
Month-on-month price differences in Catalonia have dropped by 0.8 percentage points.
In Spain as a whole, the September inflation rate stood at 8.9%, a point and a half below the rate recorded in August (10.5%).
The downward trend in prices is mainly due to lower prices for electricity, gas and fuels. However, the price of food is continuing to rise.
