Sant Cugat del Vallès (ACN).- Hewlett-Packard will concentrate the marketing service of its image and printing business in Barcelona in its centre of Sant Cugat del Vallès, one of Barcelona’s residential towns. HP already started the recruitment process for young graduates and professionals with international experience, from several nationalities and with diverse language skills. From Barcelona, HP will deal with all the marketing-related issues regarding Europe, the Middle East and Africa. According to the company, the decision is to get “the maximum efficiency and effectiveness on such operations, avoiding the dispersion in different European centres and countries”. For HP, its International Centre of Barcelona is “a talent attraction pole” and a “reference” of the image and printing business for “the high-levels of knowledge concentration”.
Hewlett-Packard is looking for young graduates and professionals wanting to undergo “their professional career in a centre of international excellence”. HP is looking for two different types of profiles: young graduates and professionals with international experience. Until now, the company had many workers in other European countries but now they will hire new staff. 50 new employees already arrived in Barcelona but this figure will significantly increase. According to HP, they took the decision to opt for their centre in the Catalan capital “for its offer of highly qualified and multilingual professionals, coming from prestigious universities and for the city’s cosmopolitan and vibrant character”, which HP considers “ideal to foster innovation in a creative environment”.
A reference centre
The centre that HP has in Sant Cugat del Vallès (in the middle of Barcelona’s Metropolitan Area) is a reference centre not only for the company but as innovation is regarded. The centre started its activity in 1985 but it increased significantly in the last decade. It is the centre responsible for all the printing products of the company, ranging from small domestic printers, to digital office printers or large format printers. It has a design and development lab with more than 350 engineers. In addition, it has 200 professionals in the areas of marketing, finance, and its International Centre of Graphic Arts. From this centre, HP leads all its financial operations for instance. Santiago Morera, the Vice President and Director General of the HP International Centre of Barcelona stated that this plant “has learned how to show professionalism as well as internationalisation and growth capacity” to become “a company’s strategic point for Europe, Middle East and Africa”.
