The Catalan economy grew by 0.8% in the second quarter of the year, with a year-on-year increase of the GDP of 2.9%.

These figures are according to the estimate published by the Catalan Statistics Institute on Wednesday.

The figures are exactly the same as those of the Spanish economy published yesterday, and are above the average of the European Union, which stood at 0.7% in Q2, and 0.3% up from the first three months of the year.

The 2.9% growth in GDP means that the Catalan economy has gown by half a percentage point more compared to the first quarter, when growth was 2.4%, and is the highest figure since the first three months of last year.

Industry (4.9%) mainly accounted for the increase, while construction rose by 3.8%, agriculture by 2.4%, and others by 2.3%.

Like the trend in the economy in general, the increase in industry is half a percentage point up compared to the previous quarter.

Motor vehicle manufacturing, the food industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the chemical industry, and IT product manufacturing led the boost in industry growth.
