Dozens of flights between Josep Tarradellas Barcelona El Prat airport and London's Heathrow were canceled on Friday morning due to a blaze near an electrical substation in the British infrastructure.

"Due to a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport, Heathrow is experiencing a significant power outage," a statement shared by the London infrastructure reads.

"To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23:59 on 21 March," it adds and advises passengers to "not travel to the airport" and to contact their airline.

Spain's airport manager, AENA, said 10 landings from Heathrow in Barcelona were scheduled for March 21, and nine departures from the Catalan capital.

As the London airport will remain closed until midnight on March 21, AENA believes more flights could also be affected.
