October sees record 4.9 million passengers at Barcelona airport
New record for first ten months of 2024 with almost 47 million passengers, 11% more than previous year
Josep Tarradellas Barcelona El Prat airport continues its skyrocketing year with another all-time high. During the month of October, there were 4,964,341 travelers, an increase of 8.2% compared to the same month in 2023 and a record high for the tenth month of the year.
With only November and December pending, the airport in Barcelona also faces a record for the whole year. So far, between January 1 and October 31, there have been 46,914,286 passengers landing or taking off from the Catalan capital, a spike of 11.2% compared to the same period in 2023. In September, that figure was 42 million.
Most passengers flew internationally, accounting for 3,715,625 overall, an increase of 9.9% compared to last year. Meanwhile, 1,236,232 flew domestic, 3.4% more than in October 2023.
During the year so far, 34,787,983 flew internationally, an increase of 13.6%, and 12,041,881, 4.7% more, flew domestically.
October also saw 31,517 flight operations land and depart from Barcelona airport, an increase of 8.4% compared to the same month in 2023. For the year to date, there have been 295,072 operations in the facility, 10.2% more than the same months of 2023.
Regarding cargo, 16,996 tons of goods were transported last month, 17.7% more than in October 2023. Between January and October, 151,766 tons were registered, 17.8% more than last year.
