Easter skyrockets employment figure to 3.73 million workers
Best number recorded for a month of March in history
Easter holidays have helped skyrocket the employment figure to the best March ever recorded, with 3.73 million workers in Catalonia, as announced on Tuesday.
The figure recorded is the third highest since 2004 when the first numbers were registered. In March, Catalonia saw 32,548 new jobs compared to February. There were 3,731,081 workers, surpassed by last year's July figures (3.75 million) and June (3.74 million).
Catalonia is the third territory that created more jobs, following the Spanish southern region of Andalusia and the Balearic Islands.
Unemployment also continued to fall, with 1,984 fewer jobseekers, a 0.6% improvement. Overall, 344,389 workers are looking for a job. Compared to March 2023, there are 3,900 fewer jobseekers (-1.1%).
Almost 21 million workers in Spain
Spain has also reached a new record during March 2024, with 20,901,967 people registered in the social security scheme.
The figure represents an increase compared to February of 193,585 people, according to the Spanish social security and inclusion ministry.
In one year, 525,414 new jobs were created (2.6% more).
