Cruise season kicks off in Tarragona
80,000 passengers expected in coming months, in what is set to be best yet for port
The cruise ship season has officially begun in Tarragona, in what is set to be its best yet for the Southern Catalan city’s port.
At eight o’ clock on Wednesday morning, the first cruise ship arrived. The Pearl II, operated by Saga Cruises, can hold up to 620 people, will remain docked at the port until six in the afternoon, before making its way to Cadis.
A total of 55 cruise ships are forecast to come to Tarragona this year, bringing an expected 80,000 passengers marking an increase of 56% compared to the previous year.
Some passengers, mostly made up of elderly people, explained to the Catalan News Agency that they had already visited Barcelona, and were very keen to explore Tarragona, famous for its Roman ruins.
